The HIMSS conference this week certainly included the latest and greatest technology in the field of healthcare. Because this year’s event was held in Las Vegas, it was the perfect opportunity to provide our clients and prospective clients with a first-hand view of our HITRUST-certified Evolve Cloud West datacenter which more than 200 million healthcare transactions each year. Our “Walk in the Cloud” tours held on Tuesday, March 6th and Wednesday, March 7th, were supported by our partner Veeam Software, whose data backup technology is an integral part of our OneCloud Healthcare solution suite. Guests were able to enjoy a truly eye-opening experience.
Evolve IP built our world-class cloud environment in the industry-leading Switch data center, located only 15 minutes from the Venetian Hotel. Switch is the largest, most efficient, and most highly-rated data center ecosystem in the world. They provide security, power and cooling for stacks of thousands of servers owned by more than 1,000 clients (including eBay, Xerox, Zappos, Amazon, DreamWorks, Shutterfly and the U.S. government) and support Evolve IP’s OneCloud™ Healthcare – our secure and compliant cloud communications and computing infrastructure.
Among the most impressive aspects for those in the healthcare industry is that Evolve IP’s cloud environment is HITRUST certified. This security standard is the most widely adopted in the healthcare industry and is now required of business associates by more than 90 HIPAA covered entities as a precursor to doing business.
What’s in a Datacenter Tour?
What we have learned by virtue of taking many clients and prospects on this tour, is that it helps many people truly grasp the meaning of cloud solutions and cloud strategies. This is true primarily because visitors can actually see ‘the cloud’ and see how ‘real’ it really is for the first time. Quite literally, you can see that the cloud is essentially simple: it’s best-in-class hardware that’s expertly built, hosted, and maintained in an amazingly safe physical environment.
The critical 24×7 nature of our many healthcare clients means we have to deliver around the clock availability and business continuity assurance. While you can’t really see all of the infrastructure design and networking expertise that goes into building a 24x7x365 cloud environment, you can see and experience the features (and over 400 patents and patent pending claims) that make the Switch facility a clearly amazing home for Evolve IP. Key features include the hardened physical security, unmatched 2x power redundancy, and more than 20 independent points of internet connectivity. Not to mention that the facility runs on 100% renewable energy.
The tour includes a visit directly to Evolve IP’s dedicated server space. Evolve IP Executive Vice President Joe Pedano, accompanied guests and highlighted the way that Evolve IP’s cloud has grown and strengthened over time to meet increasing demands of the healthcare industry. One observation by a current client was that they now “know exactly where their data is” and they feel comfortable knowing that, in the event of a disaster recovery failover, PHI remains under the protection of a HITRUST-certified infrastructure. Public cloud solutions can’t match this degree of accessibility and control, which is so important to our clients.
HITRUST Questions Answered
In addition to the datacenter tour, clients and prospects were also able to meet a representative from HITRUST for direct Q & A. For the many who are just beginning to learn about this certification, it was a fantastic introduction to hear first hand about the breadth and depth of the HITRUST security framework. This framework provides the ultimate protection for Evolve IP’s cloud and offers tremendous assurance to our clients that our security policies, procedures, and methodologies are of the highest caliber. A full educational program on the HITRUST Common Security Framework (CSF) will be conducted near our Philadelphia headquarters in July.
The benefits of a HITRUST-certified cloud are only increasing as the momentum behind the standard grows and the adoption increases. Last month marked the two-year anniversary of a mandate issued by five major payers (HCSC, UnitedHealthcare, Humana, Highmark, and Anthem) who now require their business associates to be HITURST certified. Today, more than 90 organizations are requiring the same and more than 80% of hospitals and payers have adopted the standard. The drive to get business associates certified continues to gain momentum.
As a HITRUST-certified cloud that supports 6 Gartner-acclaimed cloud solutions, Evolve IP is in a unique place to help our clients meet HITRUST requirements and to help them meet their own internal compliance requirements. Armed with our own certification, Evolve IP is able to confidently sign BAAs (Business Associate Agreements) knowing that security and privacy are at the foundation of our process.
