Part 1: Glumac leverages green technology with cloud voice and network services to aid sustainability initiative.
This past April marked the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, an event that heralded a new global awareness of the environment and launched a pursuit to preserve the planet’s natural resources. Since that first celebration, the movement has escalated like a tidal wave as citizens and global corporations have committed to various standards for sustainability including Glumac, a full-service engineering consulting firm blazing new trails in sustainable building design.
Glumac has been designing environmentally conscious corporate campuses for companies like Nike, Adidas and Pacific Bell, as well as various K-12 schools, large retailers, shopping malls, and major hotel chains worldwide for decades. In fact, many of the firm’s projects meet rigorous LEED Platinum building standards – the highest level of the most commonly recognized building sustainability standards. Most recently, Glumac committed to new building projects for certification by the Living Building Challenge (LBC) project, established by the International Living Future Institute (ILFI). The LBC is a stringent standard that has been fully attained by only five facilities worldwide to date. Glumac, aided by its partners, has developed a new approach to designing to LBC standards in existing high-rise buildings. One of the partners helping them meet these rigorous environmental standards is Evolve IP.
Glumac’s new 17,500-square-foot office is the first registered LBC in downtown Los Angeles and will occupy one floor in the 62-story, 1.1 million-square-foot Aon Center. With minimal space to generate renewable power onsite, the team is pursuing LBC Petal Recognition and a net-zero energy strategy based on a whole building heat recovery retrofit of the central chiller system. To optimize the performance of the LA offices’ communications and network infrastructure, Glumac contracted with Evolve IP for new equipment and critical services.
As a result, Glumac has been able to consolidate technologies, eliminate a second network, saving them money and simplifying vendor and system management.
