WAYNE, Pa.—June 13, 2016 – Evolve IP, The Cloud Services Company™, today announced its commitment as a premier sponsor of the Philly Stones League, a Pennsylvania-based non-profit organization. Former Philadelphia Mayor Nutter recently granted public land for a Philly Stones course at Fairmount Park, the location of the upcoming Evolve IP 2016 IP Philly Stones Invitational championship. Evolve IP’s support of Philly Stones, and the re-opening of a 50-acre section of Fairmount Park closed for 45 years, reinforce each organization’s commitment to urban renewal efforts.
Stones is a ball toss game, where stones – essentially bocce balls of varying sizes – are played through a defined course with obstacles and boundaries. Teams toss stones at a target ball to score points. With each round, the target ball advances on the course, and the team with the most points wins.
Through Evolve IP’s sponsorship, the public is invited to free instructional Stones classes every Saturday at the Fairmount Park course, which is also open from dawn to dusk every day for informal games. Structured teams participate in league play, which will culminate in the Evolve 2016 IP Philly Stones Invitational championship. Evolve IP will also sponsor Stones events at additional locations around the Philadelphia area.
Stones co-founder Christopher Kinka commented, “Evolve IP is the ideal partner for the Philly Stones League, with a strong alignment between our players and the Evolve IP team. Both are dedicated to wellness activities for all people, environmental stewardship, and fostering community and neighborhood pride.”
The Fairmount Park course is located near the legendary Boxers Trial. According to folklore, Muhammad Ali came here to challenge Joe Frazier.
“Philly Stones is doing great work with urban renewal and, at the same time, helping many discover our region’s parks and recreational areas,” said Guy Fardone, President, Chief Operating Officer and Founding Partner of Evolve IP. “We’re very pleased to support an organization that so closely mirrors Evolve IP’s efforts to give back to the communities where we live, work and play and we welcome everyone to come out to the events and try their hand at this burgeoning sport.”
The game of Stones originated on a camping trip 10 years ago with Kinka and a group of friends. Kinka founded the league with Jason Sivak, who hosted the original camping trip, and John Janick, a partner in the Philly Stones non-profit. The sport, combining elements of bocce, golf, chess, billiards and basketball, grew in popularity as more people were exposed to the game. Over time, courses have popped up around the northeast, with the first public course opening in 2012.
